Mt. Hotaka's Dramatic Peak, Gifu Alps

September in the Northern Alps — and the raw, jagged face of Mt. Hotaka just stopped me in my tracks. Those columnar rock formations are something else. The clarity of the day made every detail pop, and I could feel why this peak commands so much respect from climbers.
