Caught the sunrise over Mt. Kuju's volcanic craters in May — the raw, otherworldly landscape of Taketa just kept unfolding as the light came up. Those cinder cones, the layers of lava, the crisp morning air... this is why I love hiking these quiet Kyushu peaks!
