January in Okinawa led me to this incredible museum in Chinen-Kudeken, where I came face-to-face with these weathered shisa guardians. The craftsmanship and expression carved into that fierce little face — it totally spoke to the island's centuries of tradition. History just hits different when you're standing right in front of it!
