Herons Nesting in Ogata's Spring Forest, Akita

May in Ogata, and the forest canopy was alive with herons! Caught this one mid-flight between the pine branches, with another perched nearby — they were clearly busy with nesting season. The contrast of their elegant white plumage against that brilliant blue sky was just stunning.
