Tsunami Ruins at Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture

May 2023 — I visited the preserved tsunami wreckage in Kesennuma, Miyagi. The crushed car, twisted metal, and debris scattered across the abandoned building hit hard. Standing here, the scale of what the 2011 earthquake and tsunami took from this place became real in a way no photograph could prepare me for.

2023年5月、気仙沼市本吉町長根の津波遺構を訪ねました。押しつぶされた車、ねじ曲がった鉄骨、散乱した瓦礫...2011年の東日本大震災の爪痕がそのまま残されていて、言葉が出ませんでした。この場所が失ったものの大きさが、初めて実感できた。
